Preparing employees for a potential active shooter incident is an integral component of an organization’s incident response planning. Because active shooter incidents are unpredictable and evolve quickly, preparing for and knowing what to do in an active shooter situation can be the difference between life and death. Every second counts.
Unique Training Opportunity
To help protect our communities from these tragic events, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), National Protection and Programs Directorate, Office of Infrastructure Protection is providing a free, one-day Active Shooter Preparedness Workshop, hosted by the Baptist Church at McAdory, McCalla, AL on Aug. 14 at 8:30 a.m.
The workshop sponsorship includes a multi-level partnership with DHS, FBI, InfraGard Birmingham Member Alliance, InfraGard Huntsville Member Alliance, Birmingham Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association, the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Northern Alabama, the National Protection and Programs Directorate Office of Infrastructure Protection and The Alabama Baptist.
The event is free and open to private sector businesses and facility security professionals, supervisory first responders, human resources managers, community response officials and DHS representatives. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
This one-day workshop is strongly recommended for churches, schools, hospitals, shopping centers, entertainment venues, office buildings or any other business or organization venues where people gather forming crowded spaces.
The workshop will describe how to incorporate key elements of successful incident management into planning efforts, such as:
- Developing communication and incident plans for employees,
- Building relationships with local first responders,
- Coordinating with first responders before, during, and after an incident, and
- Integrating public affairs into incident management.
